Today was the day that we leave Brisbane for Cairns, an event which I wasn't looking forward because I really liked Brisbane as a city because it is a huge city with good shops and an excellent river to for people to chill around and yet it maintain a laid back attitude compared to the frenetic Sydney.
But I was looking forward to the sun in Cairns, we got up, had a wander around shops doing some last minute shopping before grabbing a taxi to Airport. The flight went by without much excitement though we were amazed to see a group of sixty-ish school kids from Bromsgrove in England. Their age range from 15 to 19 and they all wore identical uniform, had identical rucksack and identical wheelie bag which were creepy.
Dominic recognised their school as he lived just 15 minutes away and he said their school were one of the best in West Midlands so that explain how their school can afford all of these. Despite the fact that they all had identical bags, they were efficient in claiming their bags from the carousel without too much chaos. I suspect they all have been brainwashed by the authority.
So, back to the point, we got a free minibus to our hostel which only took about 10-15 minutes. Our hostel were situated on the outside of the Cairns town, we checked in and got the keys to our room. I was amused to discover our dorm resembles a prison with all of our bunk beds practically welded together and we even don't have a luxury of having a duvet. We were only supplied with a basic sheet.
I was not too fussed, I was too happy to rough it up like a true traveller. We went outside and did our traditional exploring which consist of finding the nearest pub and Subway for the boys and the nearest shopping mall for the girls.
On the first impression, Cairns are a very small city and it is also a holiday destination for the Aussies with the roads being filled with apartments and hostels. There was also many restaurants offering meals for 10 dollars and pubs organising a pub crawl and offering giant TVs for sports.
We went to Esplanade which is a famous lagoon for the locals to sunbathe and swim in because the beach in the city was filled with boats and sharks as well being rather dirty. We had a ten dollar deal meal and a pint before heading back to the hostel for forty winks.
