As agreed yesterday, we hired a car after rushing into the shop minutes away from the closing time to secure a car. Next day, Charlene and I went to the shop eagerly to collect our car; we got a Hyundai Getz which is a small hatchback with five doors. This can be roughly translated as me being squeezed to half death in the back.
The car however on the other hand was extremely smooth and we went to Port Douglas which is the home of the one of the most famous beaches in Australia-Four Mile beach.
On the journey, we travelled along the coastal ridges which we can see the various beaches on the one side and on the other side, we can see the aftermath of various bush-fire, the forest were charred black and there were smoke still drifting out. We eventually arrived and eagerly clambered out for the beach only to be driven back inside the car by the raging rain.
The weather, as we learnt later on is a typical tropical weather, it can changes in a blink of an eye. We waited inside patiently and the rain eventually subsided and we went outside to have a wander around in the shops.
Since, it is a tiny village; we soon went back to our car and had our packed lunches before driving to Four Mile Beach which is one of the most celebrated beaches in Australia. When we arrived, it were empty due to the bad weather and it was a lovely change for me to witness a near empty sandy beach with the backdrop of palm trees steeped in the sand dunes, we decided to have a wander which by then we discovered a dead frog and learnt that there was a recent signing of a crocodile in the sea!
There was a warning sign to advise the beachgoers of this fact and for the extra precaution to be taken when swimming in the beach. They could have not bothered according to the weather! There were also a warning sign about marine rays. By then I reached a conclusion that Four Mile beach is an ideal place for people who wanted to commit suicide!
But, as we was about to leave the beach, the weather suddenly took a turn for the better and a fierce sweltering sun came out so we opted to stay and sunbathe. Luckily enough, we brought our swimwear so the boys decided to commit suicide due to travelling with a shopaholic Sara's urge to go in every shop in her sight.
By that, I mean the boys decide to go for a swim in the beach though I admit it took a while for me to build up courage to go in the sea but when we went in the sea, it were utterly refreshing and the waves were huge which reminded me of my childhood in Compton Bay.
After an hour or so of larking about and dodging the deadly predators, the boys were ushered back to the sands by the girls who want to go back to Cairns. Dom had to borrow Sara's shorts because his shorts were still too wet which were hilarious and the shorts brought out his bony thin legs even more so!
We went back to Cairns easily enough and it made me want to have my own car even so when I get back to England! We used our free meal voucher that our hostel gave us and I had pork ribs which were mouth-watering delicious!
