The day started with us searching the market again. We have become fond of there tacky ways since Hong Kong. A 20 minute walk later and we were at the habour. The great thing about Sydney center. It's so compact and everything is so easy to walk to!
The Sydney Opera house was designed by a danish man named Jorn Utzon, unfortunatley Mr Utzon was more of an artist than a designer. In 1957 he submitted a design in to a competition for the Sydney opera house. The designs were orginally scrapped as there was no mathmatics involved and they were unsure it was even possible to create the shells. During the meeting to decide the design the top judge was late and insisted on looking through the already scrapped plans that day and came across the shell design and approved it. Orginally stated to cost 2 million over 3 years it actually took 102 million over 16 years. Utzon was sacked for spending to much money, before his ideas came to light for the interior and now a b******ised version remains by less creative designers. Utzon refused to visit the site up until his death in 2008. He did however give them the orginal plans and they are currently renivating it to his vision. From my now detailed blog, you may have noticed we went to the sydney opera house and completed a tour, it was great and very informative. Our guide was obviously enthuisiastic about the venue.
After the tour we had a chocolate fix from the Guylian cafe before walking along the habour. Where I was approached by a shabby looking young man who asked "are you from High Wycombe?" it turns out the world is small and I went to school with his brother! After awkward small talk and a brisk walk back we set about making tea. The Gnocci from last night did not reheat correctly, which ended in me running to the nearest pie shop where I met a cockney telling me about the good pie deals!
