Our last day in Brisbane we woke with a slight break in the heat (it was still boiling) and decided to make as much of the town as we could. We set off early this morning at 7:45 on the bus to Australia zoo, the one we had been holding out for! The bus ride was about an hour and a half but we did arrive as the zoo opened. Just inside the door we were greeted with several animals we could have our picture taken with for free. Firstly we stroked an Echidnas, which looked like a Porcupine and felt like straw. For our first full day in Brisbane we decided to go for a walk across the bridge to South Bank. A lovely area with gardens, cafes and 3 outdoor public pools. We grabbed some lunch at one of the cafes and watched the Australian Ibis birds scavenge for food around people's picnics. Having started to enjoy our little apartment it was time to move on again. We hauled our rucksacks back to the bus station in the searing heat and climbed abroad our final greyhound bus. Surfers Paradise is home to the Surfers Paradise International Raceway. Despite having an extremely large land mass, some crazy Aussies decided it was a good idea to make Surfers Paradise a street circuit. Today we were finally able to see what all the fuss was about.
