We arrived in Cairns just under a week before we had to drop off the van. I had some old friends living there from Jersey so we gave them a call and they arranged to meet us near their home.
Wayne came to pick us up and we followed back to his home and met the rest of the family Dee, Morgan (6) and Maia (3). We chilled around their home for the day and caught up on what they and we had been doing since we saw them last.
On the Monday Dee had work and we went on the Sky Train to Kuranda. Me and Ant took Morgan with us and he was very helpful. I was a little bit scared, as it kept bumping around and we were really high above a rainforest but seen as Morgan wasnt scared, I thought I'd better pull myself together!
Morgan pointed out all sorts of things, especially the Ulysses which is a bright blue butterfly that you find in the rainforest. At the end of the sky train, Wayne picked us up and we went for a nice pub lunch in Kuranda.
On one of the days, Morgan found a massive praying mantis which was nearly a foot long. He wasn't scared of that either and picked it up and brought it over to show us. He absolutely loves all wildlife and I have no doubt that he'll make a living out of it when he gets older! Maia is a little cutey with lots of questions. She kept asking us what we were doing and picking up everything we had and asking what it was. I went into her room and asked her about all of her things stupidly thinking that it would help and then later on that day she said 'do you want to come and see all of my things again?" lol...
Wayne took us to Lake Morris and loads of other beautiful places around Cairns, then we had bacon and egg rolls on the free BBQ's up over looking the lake. It was really good too see Cairns from the point of view of someone that knows the area, otherwise we'd never have seen so much.
On the day before we had to drop off the van, we had to clean it out and wash it. We put all our things back into our backpacks and kissed the van goodbye. Wayne picked us up after we dropped it off and later that day Ant went wakeboarding on the cable ski's. I was trying to film him but with the sun in my eyes and everyone wearing white shorts, it was pretty hard work! At one point I thought I was doing a great job, only to realise when he came close that I had been filming the guy before him for about ten minutes! ha ha ha. Woops.
The next day Wayne kindly dropped us off at the airport and we caught our flight to Melbourne to see Aaron and Jade. Whilst talking to Dee, we realised that Dee is actually Aarons Cousin, which Id never known so even when you get to Australia, it's a small world!
