Anna's travels......
When it rains in Cordoba, it rains. And oh has it. Rain, Rain and more Rain!
Last night it took the other student in my house and I ages to get a taxi from our house to the bar. By the time we got in the taxi we were soaked. Their is no drainage systems here either, so all the rain has no where to go, this causes great big rivers down the streets! I was thinking to myself, "shall I take a taxi or boat?". Had trouble finding the bar too, the taxi driver didn`t know where it was so just dropped us off on the wrong street. Nice helpful taxi driver hey. Anyway after walking in the rain (couldn`t get another taxi as they were all busy) for about 15 minutes we got there. All the other school students were there, already started dinner. We felt like complete plums walking in soaking wet!! But all turned out ok.
(Gale, remember the rain in Lapa? It was like that, but with big rivers on every street).
After dinner we walked (walked!, as taxi's were busy again!!! There are about a million taxi in this city, do they all go home when it rains!??!!), down to the centro and went to a cool bar called Sha. The walk down was funny. We had to walk along balancing on the path curb as that was the only bit that was above water. I really can`t beleive that I forgot to pack my wellies.
Got in about 5am and then had to be up for 7am as a few of us from school are going to Villa Genaral Belgrano. Really didn't want to get up. Anyway, the Rain had still not stopped! But the time I ran (was running late, kept hitting that snooze button) down to meet them I was soaking wet. My water proof jacket is proving to being not so water proof!
Only 2 hrs on the bus and we got to Villa Genaral Belgrano and it was just like being in Germany, really. It was a little villiage near the mountains, south of Cordoba. All the shops, signs, beer, chocolate, names were German.
No need to tell you that it rained all day. Naz and I were the only 2 with waterproofs, the others must have been hopeful and the weather!
Had a good day and of course tryed the beer. Everyone I was with today was really good at spanish. Was with 4 american and 1 brazilian. Interesting day as I can not speak spanish and the brazilian cannot speak english. They all took it in turns speaking spanish to the brazilian and english to me. Need I tell you that I still cannot speak spanish.
Just got back to the city now, going to have a siesta and then out again tonight. The rain has now stopped, so hoping that is it now.
