Salsa in the Park
We started today, when we eventually got up, by parking at Planet Hollywood and then walking across to MGM Grand for another look at the lions followed by breakfast/lunch/dinner?! At the Rainforest Cafe! Although this is generally quite an expensive place to eat we had found a voucher where you got a free appetiser when you bought a main dish so we chose dishes we could share easily. To start we had chicken quesadillas which came with a rich tomato salsa, shredded lettuce and sour cream and was absolutely delicious as well as being big enough to be a main dish in its own right! The main dish was a seafood combo of sorts, there were skewered coconut shrimps, cajun spiced Tilapia which was cooked to perfection, a medley of stir fried vegetables including peppers, courgettes, onions, french beans etc, there was also mexican style brown rice and finally a dish of prawns and scallops in a rich spiced cheese sauce which was the most heavenly flavour as it actually tasted cheesy!! We ended up putting the rice in this dish to make sure we got every scrap of cheesy loveliness and sat back very full up with unfortunately no room for dessert! I honestly dont think you're meant to eat these dishes as starter, main, dessert all to yourself, they're far too big for a start and quite pricey, but sharing like we did makes a much nicer experience for both the palette and the wallet! After a final look round my favourite restaurant we left to cross the road and go see the Bellagio fountains again, this time by daylight...I didnt think it was quite as impressive as the night time shows but still an incredible spectacle to see! We took the opportunity while here to have a look around the Paris casino which is a bit odd inside. Outside is the ½ size replica of the Eiffel Tower and its 4 main support struts go into the building itself, so as you go inside you see them which is quite cool but the odd thing is that they've done the ceiling to look like the sky, forgetting that the tower continues upwards, so you see these huge metal legs going up and then stopping abruptly in nothingness!! The rest of the casino is done out in typical french style with some posh looking restaurants, water fountains and a bridge going across from one side to the other. Leaving Paris behind we walked back across to Planet Hollywood where we looked around the shops and arrived in time for the indoor rainstorm! We just had time to look around the Flamingo Casino, one of the oldest on the strip, before it was time to go dancing. We had agreed to meet Roger in Pioneer park where about 10-12 people showed up to dance to the music he put on. It turns out this was the last time as he is moving to Miami soon. We both had a good time and danced until just after 10 when we decided to head back into town and catch the two free shows we hadn't yet seen. Annoyingly the drive back took a bit longer than expected so we only managed to see the Mirage's volcanic eruption show from a distance, however we were in plenty of time to see the spectacular Siren's of T(reasure) I(sland) show complete with fireworks, pyrotechnics, and a sinking pirate ship!! Then it was time to head back to the hostel for our final piece of cheesecake and bed.
