(Photo of the fresco ceiling of the cathedral)
After settling into Baluch Backpacker Hostel & most importantly having a shower as I smelt hideous (:-p) we had a good wander around Cordoba.
Explored the Cathedral, the Cabildo & the Museo de la Memoria. The Memory museum was a sobering & disquieting experience as, to be fair, it should be. The museum is based in the old military police headquarters called "D2". Over 20,000 men, women & teenagers were arrested & brought here for interrogation between the early 70s & 1982. These are the known as the "Disappeared" as they were never seen again. Utterly horrific. I stood in one of the tiny cells, even with the door open it gave me the chills. There was also a library of books banned by the regime, many of which were children's books determined as subversive as they were imaginative! Interesting the oppression ceased when the regime invaded the Falklands in 1982 as they were just too busy fighting us Brits to oppress their own people.
