Cyclone!!!
Ok so Thursday I went diving in the Great Barrier Reef. There is a cyclone coming in so a lot of boats were cancelled and the water was so choppy going out that a lot of people got sick. But I was on the last trip out and took sea sickness tablets so was ok. I stayed with the instructor for snorkeling because the waves were kind of intense but it was still gorgeous. We saw a turtle from afar, but not close up. Lots of nemos. Held a blue starfish and a sea cucumber. If you have ever held a sea cucumber you probably giggled like I did. Hilarious.
Diving was a little more complicated than I thought it was going to be. I wasn't scared at all, knowing I have very little fear of sharks and stuff. As soon as I put my head underwater I freaked. The breathing apparatus didn't feel like I was getting enough air to me. And my eardrums felt like they were going to burst despite popping them several times. The instructor said he would start us off holding our hands, but I think I clung to that poor man the whole time. Didn't even swim, he had to tow me. Got really close to a giant clam which was awesome. I want to do it again just because now I feel like I will freak less since I survived the first. The boat trip was a huge success though.
After going out that night the cyclone warnings have gotten worse. I have been stuck in my hostel for two days. They evacuated us from the rooms to sit in the most secure building for a few hours today. My flight to Sydney for tomorrow morning was cancelled, but I rescheduled it for the same night. Just bummed ill miss a day with my mom. Can't wait to get to Sydney, it'll be nice to be traveling with someone for a bit. Plus hotel rooms!!!!!
