Whitsunday sailing was amazing. I actually was talking to someone about teaching me sailing if I go to Perth to work. That is how much I loved it.
The first day was swimming in the ocean after a good sail, drinking games and a fish dinner. It was a quiet group, but I couldn't stop reading my book so I was ok with that.
Day 2 we sailed to Whitehaven beach. I, of course, was motion d*** during the journey, but found my sea Leah's for most of the trip after that. The beach had the softest, whitest sand I have ever seen. There were sting rays to chase in the lagoon. No worries though, we wore super sexy stinger suits anytime we went into the water. The water was clear again; a quality I live about Australian beaches.
After lunch we went to a small cove with fringe reef (I should have paid attention to all the names) to snorkel. The schools of fish swam right up with us. The coral itself was fascinating. If I were better with words I still wouldn't be able to describe it. I stayed until my feet and fingers were wrinkled from being in the water far too long.
From there, we were taken to one meter island ( so named because it disappears into one meter of land when the tide is high) to watch the sunset. Gorgeous of course.
The next morning was all water play. Paddle boarding and the big slide to start. I was terrified of the diving board but finally convinced myself to jump off by pretending it was Dauntless initiation (yes I am a dork).
More snorkeling in another area revealed fish of all different colors. I found Nemo! Also there was a beaky looking blue one with pink patterns that looked like a maze. We saw dolphins throughout the trip, No sea turtles though. Maybe when I go diving in Cairns.
Once we returned to land and were settled in the hostel, there was a free didgereedoo lesson at an aboriginal art store. It was hilarious. I could actually make a beat by the end, but the animal sounds were beyond me.
