The last day in New Orleans began as two day before, with a hearty southern breakfast. Then we headed out towards the Airboat Adventures place in Harrero for a swamp tour.
If you are taking this tour then please be aware that the airboat dock is about 15 miles away from the main office so leave plenty of time to get there. We were booked on the large airboat that takes about 12 people. the tour takes about and hour and a half to two hours. It takes you around the bayous and explains some of the natural history and also you will get to see plenty of gators. The tour guide was very good and got up close to the alligators too.
To attract the gators they use 'swamp crack' or marshmallows, which they seem to love. After the tour we headed back towards the French Quarter for some more sight seeing and shopping.
The French Quarter is very big on voodoo and has a variety of dolls, candles and ornaments relating to it. I picked up a voodoo doll and some mardi gras beads as a memento of my time in New Orleans. I had a chance to walk along Bourbon Street and it still has the same electric atmosphere as every time before.
After heading back to the hotel to pack up, we decided to have a room service dinner which consisted of a sloppy po' boy with Cajun fries, which was excellent.
New Orleans is a place like nowhere else in the world and I love it. I would definitely come back here. Tomorrow it is onwards to Mobile, Alabama, but that's all for now and I'll keep you posted on the journey.
