The first full day in New Orleans was as amazing as the few hours yesterday. Got up earlyish and headed down for breakfast in the hotel that was included in our rate.
I was surprised to find a selection of southern staples such as biscuits and homestyle gravy, grits, and the usual sausage, bacon, eggs abs waffles. The food was up to a very high standard as was the service. A breakfast from here sets you up for a dull day of seeing the sights.
Going in to the French quarter takes about 15 mins and is easy enough to navigate. Parking was pretty clear at 10 in the morning. We had booked for a battlefield cruise, but it was cancelled. We are heading out on this tomorrow now on the Creole Queen Riverboat.
Having the plans for the day postponed we had a free day in town. There are many companies that run tours that explain what happened around the time of hurricane Katrina. They grey line Katrina tour was really good and explained everything that went on during that time, some of it you will have never seen through the press. It is abbot $32 per adult.
After the tour, it was time for food. We walked along to Jackson Square where we found the corner sports bar and ordered the New Orleans Sampler which consisted of Sausage Gumbo, Jambalaya, Red Beans, shrimp Creole and Bread Pudding. The food was excellent and it was slightly spicy.
Feeling quite full, I decided to walk it off around Bourbon Street which was as amazing as ever. There is a strong voodoo movement in the city and you will find many dolls in the gift shops.
Having had a busy day we decided to go back to the hotel for a restless night and I went for a swim in the Hotel pool which was quite relaxing and I'm all set for the cruise tomorrow.
