The second last day in New Orleans began the same as the day before, a souther breakfast that sets you up for another day of sightseeing. The first job of the day was to head in to the French Quarter.
Since the Creole Queen cruise boarded up past the aquarium, we chose a lot closer to the river walk. There is a good mall and a huge food hall at the Spanish square at the river walk. I would recommend the sushi place near the front of the food court. We made our way down to the boat for the cruise.
The Creole Queen Chamlette Battlefield Cruise takes you in a journey down the mississippi river to the creole area of the Chamlette Battlefield, which was the last battle of the Civil War where the british were defeated. There is a park ranger that gives you all the information and history about the area.
The river boat then heads back up to dock at the riverside walk. For dinner tonight we went to a sports bar just across from the dock and I tried on e of the local delicacies. The muffaletta is a large sandwitch with different kinds of meat, cheese and deli veg all in toasted bread. It was very good but extremely filling. We stayed in the riverside walk area the full night.
As it was the 4th of July there were pleanty of festivities around the area. At the fountain in Spanish square, they're was a stage set up and a selection of local acts were playing. There was a Reggie band, a trio of war time singers and a US Navy band rock who were very good. They played up until 9 o'clock when the fireworks began.
The fireworks tonight were amongst the best I have ever seen. And they were easily visible form the fountain area. After the fireworks, the traffic out of the parking lot was crazy. It took around half and hour to move 2 blocks but after that it was ok. A quick stop at Wendy's on the way back foe some food and then back to the hotel to relax.
Tomorrow is the last day we have here and we have planned a large airboat tour on the swamps. It should be fun and I will keep you updated. That's all for now.
