Tikal is an old Mayan city in the north of Guatemala. It is huge, only partly dug out of the jungle and restored and has endless temples.
This was my first temple visit and by what other folk are saying its o e of the most impressive.
Before we arrived we read that temple 4 was the most popular first thing in the morning for climbing (it is the tallest at 64m) when the jungle canopy "comes alive". So plan a was to dodge this temple and go to a less popular high'ish temple, but when we seen we were only the second bus into the park, the temple was a 25min walk away and that the average age was 40 we decided to head straight for it. So in the end Dom and I had the tallest temple in mesoamerica (a word from the tourist pamphlet) all to ourselves for breakfast (fruit and nuts, and one bag of pasta made the night before).
The rest of the day was leisurely spent walking around the jungle and up and around temples (and avoiding the rain that joined us).
