Having decided that I'd spent enough time in Siem Riep and have seen Ankor Watt, I took a boat to Battambang (which turned out to be a local boat, although we paid for tourist one I'm sure).
This was a rather interesting experience as we picked up locals along the way, however as they came from the floating villages they got "taxi'd" in by boat to ours, from many of the floating villages we passed. It also meant what started out as a comfortably spaced ride ended with a tightly cosily squeezed journey. The river was in flood which was ideal as we arrived in Battambang in just 6 hours.
I met a South African couple, John and Chelsea on the way. We shared a tuk-tuk to our hotel. Our tuk-tuk driver offered us a tour which we accepted. A friend of the Jess I travelled Siem Riep with joined us on our tour too.
We went to the:
Bamboo train - we went on man operated all open train ride. In short it was a large bamboo plank on wheels, very fast feels indeed. There were cows on the track and random locals crossing. The scenery was fantastic and turned out to be an adrenaline packed ride.
Bat Cave - at around 5:30pm around sunset the bats in their thousands came spiralling out of the cave for a good 20 to 30 minutes. Was incredible to see.
Around the corner of the case, In an attempt to beat sunset, we rapidly walked up a large number of steps to the top of the mount where there is a temple too. We were rewarded with a most spectacular sunset. The other side of the hill had a killing cave, but we decided to give that a skip.
As sunsets left us out of light we used our mobiles to decend and went back to the hotel and got some food at the white Rose restaurant. We had a fantastic food there and it had great ambiance.
John and Chelsea were thinking of going down to Sihanoukeville, but they decided to go to Koh Chang instead.
The next day we saw the markets and we all said good by to Battambang and each other. I waited for my night bus, the mototaxi picked me up and took me to the bus station. In great Asian style the Morotaxi did not have a helmet for me and took all of my luggage on the bike...that's where impressive meets crazy.
Another night bus here I come...!
