After a fantastic breakfast, we packed lunch into the panniers and headed off to the Lake District.
The day started relatively easily following the river from Kirkby Lonsdale. Then as we approached the M6 the road climbed steeply upwards, under the carriageway, to the top of a hill to present a view of the lakes, the dales and military jets flying low (lower than us) through the valley.
The sky was crystal clear and we could see for miles ahead as we raced down the other side of the climb towards Tebay. The miles that followed around the outskirts of the eastern fells were undulating but easy going.
We climbed high into the hills but unlike previous days the potential energy gained was realised over long, shallow, winding gradients until finally we found ourselves in the bustling town of Brampton.
Over a bucket sized cup of coffee each, we decided we would make a break for the Border! We set off down the main road and at around 5pm we found ourselves in Gretna having our photo taken by a fellow LEJOG'er.
We pushed on a further 9 miles to get to Annan where we finally called it a day and went in search of food and drink to refuel.
Dad/Ken Super work writing the blog, Adam. What with references to x and y axes, and potential energy - love it! Who knows - you may get yourself on a few more of the photos - you have to be quite firm with Ruth to keep her out of the picture! So it's upwards into och and aye land. It all sounds great. Keep it going.

Naomi Woop well done for reaching the border! Sounds like you're managing to fit in plenty of beer. Will you be on whisky now you're in Scotland? Not too much further now! Me and Rach are taking Kaya up the Wrekin this morning and then I've got lots of organising of papers and a bit of planning to do. Lots of Love to you two! Xxx
