The kindness of strangers:
Well I told you in a previous blog that the water wasn't working properly for about 5 days. We could get a trickle out, but no showers. And I told you that I went across the street to the neighbor who was very kind and called a repairman for me on Friday. Friday night the woman and her husband ring our doorbell and say "we have something for you." So we leave our door cracked and follow them across the street. They have bought the house right next to their house for when guests and family come to town. They handed us the keys and said in their best English, "You come shower whenever you need." And they don't even know us! How nice is that! We were dumbfounded. What a great lesson in kindness. So we take the keys and come back across the street and Yikes inside the house is a BLACK CAT! Neither Lucy nor I are cat people so we were freaking out. I was trying to move the cat towards the door and it started hissing at me. Finally we shooed it outside and all night we were just sure that his sister would be waiting for us when we went to bed. I said to Lucy "thank goodness it didn't pee in the house, that would have been a disaster." And Lucy says "Do cats really pee? I mean think about it, I know they do, but you see dogs peeing all the time, why don't you see cats peeing?" So that gave us a good laugh. Anyway, Monday morning I walked to the heating and air conditioning store around 10 to see if a repairman could come and do you know that the nice lady across the street had beat me there! She went in at 9 o'clock to get an appointment for me! I brought them a bottle of wine when the water was fixed and from their reaction giving a French person a bottle of wine might be the equivalent to giving a dentist a toothbrush. Not sure but it's the thought that counts right?
