So what's the deal with smoking in this country? Everybody smokes! When we were in Paris we noticed that young 20's couples were smoking, parents with small children were pushing their strollers and smoking, and now here we are in this cute little village and all the teens smoke too! You can't smoke inside restaurants anymore, but if you sit outside at a cafe, every table around you is smoking. We saw a table of 3 attractive men in their late 20's at a sushi place in Paris who took turns smoking through the entire meal! Yuck, even when their friends were still eating, they were blowing smoke in their faces.
The highschool kids in Loches seem to get done with school around 5 or 5:30 and we are usually in town around this time. They all swarm the super marche where they buy gads of candy and soda. Lucy finds this wildly funny that this is their "hangout". But I pointed out that they don't have 7-11, the super marche is the only spot in town to get their sugar fill. Then we've seem some at cafes doing guess what? Smoking! Where are their parents? I guess they all smoke too so maybe it's the norm.
So while we have an obesity problem in America fueled by processed food and fast food, they are all skinny here. Hmm, which is worse, black lungs, but your fashion looks great, or clogged arteries and delicious McDonalds's fries. You decide.

Cary Wyatt I just laughed outloud! I hope you all have a great time! What a great experience and treasured memories.
Wendy Hi Cary! Hope the boys are doing well. Big hugs to all. Wendy
Maury That is the one thing that has appalled me the most about the French and if you can believe it they actually smoke less than they did 20 years ago. There is no age limit to smoking in France so it is not uncommon to see middle school students smoking right outside the school.
