Welcome to Rockhampton! The steak capital of Australia! After hearing this we couldnt possibly pass up the chance to sample australias best steak (and the idea of a proper dinner for once) so added it to our itinery!

Rockhampton is where the Tropic of capricorn meets the Tropic of cancer- so this was our official first time in the tropics- very exciting! After visiting the information centre and pretending that we were there for any other reason than to eat steak we literally ran to the Great Western Hotel as soon as we were in the 12- 2 bracket (lunchtime!). We were not dissapointed, the steaks were absolutely amazing, but D is not convinced its the best shes ever had!

After Rockhampton we took a bit of a detour to the capricorn caves for a look around. One of the caves has been converted into a cathedral so people can get married inside it, this alone made it a worthwhile visit, the cave was covered in subtle lighting and had very good acustics- reckon it would be a romantic place to get married. We also saw lots of bats and did part of the route with just a candle to help us understand what it would have been like in the olden days when the first tourists visited it!

After the caves, we got back on the road and travelled up to Mackay.
