I think Nic and I agree that this was our favourite place in Vietnam. Similar to Lang Prabang, with it's quaint fairy lit buildings and restaurants along the river. It was very classy and again like Lang prabang a national heritage site. The thing that gives Hoi An the upper hand though is it's stunning white sand beach. With a coast line that stretches over 3km, lined with palm trees and not much else, it was a great place to unwind in the day.
The town and beach area is very spread out at least 40mins by foot from one to the other. So we hired bikes for the week and cycled everywhere. Even that can be quite dangerous in Vietnam though. One afternoon we were caught it the school run and wondered if we would get out alive!!
Hoi An is also referred to as tailor town and every other building offers to make you, suits, dresses, shoes what ever you desire. We ended up getting all of those things!! Including custom made flip flops for Nic ( his dream come true).
We were both happy with how they turned out and in total it came to a fraction of the price we'd pay at home.
Our hotel was ok, the lure for us had to be the free cocktail hour by the pool every evening, and before we knew it word had spread and there were about 20 of us there. It was a really good atmosphere and we'd all stroll down to the bars together in the evening.
Luckily for us it wasn't flooded although when we were at dinner on our final night the river had begun to over flow and and was creeping up onto the streets.
If you ever go to Vietnam I cannot recommend this charming little place high enough. It has everything to offer, including beer by the river at 10p a glass... you can't go wrong.
Next stop Nha Trang the so called party town!
Flip flops and tequila shots
