We had a one day stop over in Hue to break up the journey to Hoi An. After another nightbus and the longest session of the name game EVER we arrived.
We stayed at the sister hostel of where we had stayed in Hanoi and the 6 of us (friends from the boat trip) settled into our dorm before going of to explore.
Hue is the former capital of Vietnam and I can see why its not now.
It's not a bad place theres just very little going on.
We took a boat trip along the river stopping at a pagoda, with a giant turtle statue which is meant to bring good luck if you rub it's head before heading to the citadel.
It's kind of a city walled off within the city. It was built over 30years in the early 19th century and was home to the royal family and emperor's.
Less than a third of the structures inside the citadel remain. The French army shelled the building, and removed or destroyed nearly all the treasures it contained. Most of the buildings were destroyed by a fire in 1947.
It was a cool place to see, filled with courtyards, gardens and ruins.
Later in the evening I got a message from a friend warning me of servere flooding in Hoi An...noooooooooooo!
We were getting the bus at 7am the nx morning and decided to take our chances.
Next stop Hoi An.......Hopefully.
