"Malaysia- truly asia...."
Kuala Lumpur is an awesome concrete jungle of multicultural sophistication, designer supermalls, architectural brilliance and a Nando's.
It is by far our favourite Asian super city which somehow felt a little like London. With a monorail.
There is a tube network, reliable public buses and a real quirky buzz of business all wrapped up in fashionable clothing and many options for food and bars.
The look out tower is pretty huge in the central district which can be seen from all over the city. However, the piece de la resistance ( the coolest bit) is undoubtedly the Petrona towers, the HUGE twin towers in the centre of the business district. Quite a sight. They are incredible to look at.
So incredible that we spent over £20 on two drinks at the sky bar on the 33rd floor of the traders hotel just so we could look at them from another angle.. The hard life of a traveller...
The Central Market mixes the new and modern culture with Malaysian tradition. All sorts on sale from table cloths, weird fruits and dried meats, all the way to over priced fake designer clothes.
China Town is a buzzing and forever developing community which was worth a visit.
The ridiculously over the top and slightly premature Christmas decorations covering all shopping malls and restaurants only added to the atmosphere of the city, and left us humming, "do they know it's Christmas," as we battle our way through the tube system back out of town.
We only spent a couple of days in KL before heading to the Philippines, we would have loved more time. It was an awesome, yet slightly expensive, Modern Asian experience. A world away from Siem Reap in Cambodia.
We come back for one night only after we are done in the Philippines.
I can already hear nando's calling my name..... Ummmm chicken...
Peace and chicken wings
