Singapore was a flying visit really. En- route to melbourne, we opted to spend a few more days in KL instead as it was more reasonably priced, and we wanted to ride the monorail while singing the 'monorail' song from the Simpsons as you do.
"Mono.... Doh!!"
We definitely made the right choice as the 'hovel'... I mean hostel we stayed at in Singapore was only bearable for the one night! 12 bunkbeds, 1200 bedbugs YUK!
Our budget unfortunately didn't stretch to all the normal tourist hot spots. The wheel, night safari and Cable cars were seen only on information maps and travel guides. However we made the most of our time by discovering the delights of the MRT (tube) and exploring the free attractions.
We had an evening stroll along the Clarke and Boat Quays, which was very beautiful with the Christmas lights! We saw a building 55 storeys high with a large boat built on top of it!! Pretty impressive, the 'sky park' as it's known, is home to a casino, theme park, infinity pool and several bars and restaurants. Very posh!
We found a "propa" (to be said in a cockney accent) British fish and chip shop and with the grey sky and constant downpours we felt quite at home mooching along the river bank with our chips wrapped in paper.
The following day we made the most of the time before our flight to make ourselves feel a bit more poor by visiting the famous Orchard road. I have never seen so many designer shops...eva! Theres like six Gucci's in about a 400 metre radius.
I went into topshop wishing I was julia roberts in pretty woman and Nic went to macdonalds wishing he could combine their nuggets with burger king chips and a KFC fillet meal all washed down with a bucket sized fanta.
As I said short but sweet, with our big Aussie adventure ahead it's time to say goodbye to Asia. We had four incredible, unforgettable months. Until next time Asia, over and out!
Peace and kangaroos
Katie and Nic
