Tulum is a small town set on the highway and an area along the coast where there are some ruins on the beach. We stayed at a hostel on the highway which was ok. On the first day we decided to go in to town and look in to diving. We went in to a few dive shops and asked about sea diving but they all recommended diving the cenotes as they were unique to that area. We ended up going with a dutch guy for $115 USD 2 dives.
Cenotes are surface connections to water pools and caves underground. One of the cenotes called Angelita contained fresh and salt water which created an anchialine system so when we dived about 10m down we then hit the anchialine which looked like a sandy bottom but you descended through it, when underneath it was pitch black so we had torches and swam around at 30m for about 15mins.
The second dive we did was called Grand Cenote which was beautiful a large underwater cave system which was awesome crystal clear water and beautiful stalactite and stalagmite formations.
The dive center gave us a free dinner at a great local restaurant so after diving Juanita, Dave, Junior and I enjoyed a good meal before we headed off to Player del Carmen.
