We flew from Havana to Cancun today flight was again a little delayed but nothing like on the way to Cuba (8hours). We caught a bus to the downtown area to try and find a hostel. We walked around for about half hour going to a few but not happy with either the price or the dorm rooms. Finally we came across this great hostel which was pretty cheap and had dinner and breakfast included. Which was sweet as we were all starving. It had a really good feel to this hostel with heaps of travelers to chat with. Few beers and an early night.
The next day we were off to snorkel with the whale sharks again. We paid $120 this time but it was way better than the last time and well worth it. We were looking for them for about 2 hours. Finally the boat got a call on the radio and they had found 1 so you could see about 50 boats all head for that one whale. We got there and there was no way we were going to get a chance to see it so we continued on looking again. Another hour later finally we find about 20 and it was really really good. We were one of the first boats there and were able to jump in about 6 times. One time we were swimming along with one and then another one came straight at us from the other direction. It scared the hell out a few people as the visibility is not that good so you don't see them until it is really close. The last time we jumped in we were swimming with the biggest Manta ray I've seen. It was huge, maybe a few metres across.
Lunch and beers were supplied on the boat which was nice so after swimming we headed to this really nice reef for a bit more snorkeling and then the crew made us up cerviche which is prawns cook in lemon juice and it was awesome. We got back to the hostel at about 3pm chilled out for a few hours before getting ready for the night.
At night we again had a great dinner at the hostel and then a few beers. At 11pm minivans came to pick us up and take us to The City night club supposedly the biggest night club in Latin America. We paid $45 USD which included VIP entrance and table and all you drink of anything you wanted. We had bottles of Tequila, Vodka, Rum, everything. There were about 20 of us from the hostel and it was awesome fun. Dancing on the seats looking down at the crowd watching the dancing girls on the bar and the cage dancers hanging from the roof. This club can hold up to 7000 people it was just massive and so worth doing.
The next morning was a wobbly start we had breakfast and then checked out. We caught the bus to Merida 5 hours away.
