After refuelling the van at Three Ways roadhouse we hit the road heading East for the town of Camooweal 457 k/m's away and crossed the boarder into Queensland. The road was mostly very straight through bushy country for about 300 k/m's then wide open flat plains where it looked like you could see forever and was the most distance we had covered in one day so far. Camp was at a free campsite on the edge of town beside a long shady billabong where the bird life was just amazing. It's a very popular site but we had no trouble finding a camping spot overlooking the water with about 50 other campers. Three other campers joined us for a chat at happy hour and two were entertainers who were booked to perform at the local pub that weekend. One was a famous bush poet so we were treated to one of her poems that she had won an award for and had been published. It's never dull at these bush camps! Next morning after an easy 190 k/m's further East through very different windy hilly country we cruised into the mining town of Mount Isa where we restocked the van and had lunch. The town was not what we had expected and is based around the huge mine sites on the hills around town where they mine for copper, lead, and zinc etc. You can see the various colours of the rock layers which look very different from the iron ore mines that we have seen so far and the town had a nice clean feel to it. After lunch we headed another 70 k/m's East to our next camp at Corella Dam where we meet up with our good friends Harry and Nola for three nights of freedom camping together. Very exciting.
