Miles to next Stop 257
Time Leaving: 7:47 Temp: 48 degrees High 65
States Today: Alaska
Accrued miles to Date: 6, 081
Saying for the day: RESPECT: One of the many things people lack these days.
Lots of rain this morning, but we still had to unhook and get going. 257 miles today to TOK. The bright spot to the day is that we will get to go through Keystone Canyon again.
Follow the Lowe River through the Canyon; the water is really churning with the rock outcroppings hanging over the water. Bridal Veil Falls and Horse Tail Falls, stunning in this misty rain soaked morning.
Now the pull of the mountain - 6 miles up to Thompson pass and 38 degrees. And down the mountain again. The drive to and from Valdez was the most scenic of the whole trip for us. I wouldn't mind doing that again.
We get to follow the pipeline for awhile from Pump Station 12 through Copper Canyon. The rain has stopped and we're seeing patches of blue! We've had some really bad roads, lots of frost heaves to contend with, knowing the inside of the trailer will be a bit of a hurricane disaster when we stop.
The different road we're taking to TOK has such beautiful placid lakes and majestic looking mountains. We pass the Wrangall Mt. Range again, different view of the mountains this time and Mt. Drum is just beyond description!! Beauty that surpasses Denal - YES, it does.
We see two Trumpet Swans in a quiet lake and a little farther down the road, another lake with 2 more Trumpet Swans.
Arrive Tok, AK, Tok RV Park at 1:20 pm This is the first place we stayed in Alaska and the last place we stayed; leaving in the morning for the Canadian border in 80 miles. Back into the Yukon Territory.
How long staying: One night.
Tomorrow to CongDon Creek, Yukon Territory, Provential Park near Destruction Bay
