Monday, June 12, 2017 Miles to next Stop: 234 miles – Vertical 10
Leave at : 8:00 a.m. Temp: 48 degrees, remained 48 degrees all day
State and Territory today: Alaska and Yukon Territory
Accrued miles to Date: 6,322
Saying for both days: Keep them guessing!
Rain and more rain today and all night long. Hopefully not too heavy while we drive today.
We have a border crossing today, into the Yukon Territory again. The roads are terrible and we cringe to think what we may find inside the trailer, what all got thrown around. The frost heaves are awful and we can only drive about 30-35 mph. This makes for a long day.
Two more Trumpet Swans on their own 'private' lake seen.
Stop at the "Welcome to Alaska" sign, we missed going into Alaska. See two more Trumpet Swans flying into their own lake; great to see them landing on the water. We’re amazed at how many we have seen.
Into Canada at 10:20 a.m. Now we are back to a 3 hr. difference in time. The roads are pretty bad here too, but we’re getting used to that now. The Canadian Border Customs is 30 miles passed the border. Arrive there at 11:25 a.m.
We finally arrive at Congdon Creek, YT at 2:25; we are able to get a site right on Kulane Lake, a really pretty park. Take a walk around the park after we get set up and straighten things in the trailer, not as bad as we thought it might be.
Arrive Congdon, YT, Congdon Creek Provincial Park
How long staying: 2 nights
Where to next: Carcross, Alaska
Tuesday, June 13, 2017 Temp: 40 degrees and rained all night, real hard and a real misty and little bit of sleety rain today. Afternoon changing to partly cloudy and beautiful.
Congdon Creek, YT
So much rain all night and now all day too, but we had no plans for today, we can just relax here a bit. We did get to go out and walk a little after lunch and had some TV, amazingly! It’s pretty much out in the boonies where we are. We are advised not to even walk around w/out having the bear spray handy.
The sun comes out, yay, we can get outside. Down to the beach where there are swarms of mosquitoes, but they don’t bite. See some Barrow’s Golden Eye Ducks, wow, they’re beautiful! Walk around the park and just enjoy the mountains with the foggy mist covering the snow on top. A lovely, relaxing day for us and we’re ready to head out to Whitehorse, YT (again) tomorrow then to Congdon Creek CG.
