Will-and-Marge's Great Adventure to Alaska
Miles to this Stop: 209
Time Leaving: 8:00 a.m. Temp: 41 High 64 Sunny Afternoon
States Today: Alaska
Accrued miles to Date: 4,762 Hours moving in seats: 89 hours 42 minutes
Saying for the day: Sometimes the person who has been there for everyone else needs someone to be there for them.
You'll note we had no blog for yesterday. The only thing we really did that was constructive for the day was to fill up with propane, do a little walking, and wash the trailer – and a massive job that was! Luckily the campground had a wash area with pressure hoses to use, so that made the chore a bit easier. One whole month of dirt and mud were plastered from stem to stern. We spent a good hour scrubbing and rinsing.
Interesting facts about Tok: it’s the sled dog capital of Alaska and the official state sport.
Heading off to Fairbanks today with some overcast skies and some sprinkles. We’re hopeful for more sun along the way. We will also see the end of the Alaska Highway this morning, so that will be a milestone on this trip. 1422 miles Since MP 0 at Dawson Creek, BC
Our first moose! A momma moose eating at the side of the road, allowing us all the pictures we wanted. Seen at milepost 1378. We waited awhile hoping to see babies or maybe even Daddy. And then, MORE moose another mile on; this time momma and baby. It’s a moose kind of day! And yet another one. We’re still holding out for that BIG BULL moose picture.
Moose tally for the day: 7
Trumpet Swans seen, 2.
Stop at Delta Junction and get some pictures at the end of the Alaska Highway and a picture of the Alaska Pipeline, where it crosses the Tanana River. The Trans-Alaska pipeline transports crude oil from the oil fields on Alaska’s North Slope to the Port of Valdez.
Arrive: Fairbanks, Alaska, River’s Edge RV Park at 2:20 ADT
How long staying: til Saturday, May 26. (Six Nights)
Where to next: Denali N.P.

Charly Boone Got your moose! Enjoy your stay at this camp
June Chamberlin Wow, what a gorgeous day! We should be so lucky to have those blue skies here! And to think...you have almost 24 hours of it!
June Chamberlin Gosh, looks like a skinny horse to me!
June Chamberlin Okay, maybe more like a mule...
June Chamberlin YIKES!
June Chamberlin Nice view of the river! Strange, it doesn't look like I pictured Alaska. It could be a campground anywhere in the US!
June Chamberlin That's not how I pictured the pipeline at all! Attractive, like a suspension bridge!
June Chamberlin Awww. Well, Marge has seen what she wanted to see. You can come home now.
June Chamberlin I'm surprised they're not more skittish, like my deer. They seem fine with human intruders.
June Chamberlin An exciting day of "milestones," for sure! So glad you get to spend some time settling in and enjoying the sites.
