We made it! Diamond Head is a pretty easy hike, less than a mile but straight up at the very end over 100 stairs. What an amazing view of Waikiki and the coastline. It was well worth the quick hike. It still takes about 30 minutes each way and is a popular hike with tourists and locals.
Hilarious moment of the hike - opening my Map this Run app and apparently I hadn't shut it down from my last run, so it showed 3,712 miles for my run. Man I'm tired!
Scary moment - Malikai, Kylie, and Narci ran down instead of walking and his phone popped out of his small board shirts pocket. He was terrified! We called it and right away a girl answered and had picked it up on the trail. Malikai ran up to meet her and all was well. Thank goodness for the kindness of strangers!
We made it up and back so fast we had time to drive down the coastline to Hanauma Bay. Hanauma Bay is super popular for snorkling. We didn't have any gear and not very much time, so we opted to just park and walk around the park above, taking in views of the coral below, and cliffs. I am so glad Hawaii has taken measures to protect this area a bit more. When we were kids, you could just walk straight out, and about 15 years ago when we came it was so trashed! It looks so much more vibrant again.
Such a beautiful part of the island. We even saw a humpback whale!!!!!!!! I was so excited! We pulled over and got a few pics of the spray and a tail flip. We were pretty far away, but it was still super cool.
We pulled into a neighborhood called Hawaii Kai, and had a great sushi lunch. So nice to have adventurous kids and a husband that eats whatever! Way too much ono food in the islands, I'm definitely going to have to hold off on stepping on any kind of scale for a while after we get back! Luckily we are keeping pretty busy and will hopefully burn it off fast!
