Up early(-ish) to look further into the problem with the genoa furling gear.. Diagnosis is that the ball bearing race at the top of the sail is not turning freely when under tension. Skipper's previous conversations with the manufacturers told him that it was feasible to fit a replacement masthead unit. It comes down to deck level with the sail, but today is Sunday so the project is on hold until the morrow.
Hopefully, a new unit can be despatched pdq, cos we can't really leave here until it's sorted.
However intrepid Ian could not be dissuaded from climbing the mast anyway to confirm no damage had been done to the forestay.
Reassured, and several aerial photoshots later it was off to Cafe Rouge once again, armed with more Tesco vouchers for a late breakfast.
Rest of the day spent chilling and bidding farewell to to our intrepid little friend who obviously thinks that one week in our company is enough for any right-minded Welshman.
Another unexpected snag is lack of fuel on the Thames. The only diesel available is from a fuel barge on the lumpy bumpy river....and we are advised they get shirty with anyone wanting less than 5,000 litres! 60 will do us........
Helen J (John's daughter, and avid fan of the blog) cycled over to see us. Pimms, followed by a curry was the order of the day....although we were all exhausted after hearing all about the tri-athlon she competed in yesterday! Shouldn't be surprised, having such an athletic Dad an all........
The evening was rounded off by a visit to the Xi bar (nee Thames) at the hotel, over looking the illuminated Tower Bridge. Fantastic.
It is currently slinging it down, and poor Helen is pedalling home...

P Smith Sounds like a fab day, congratulations to all you intrepid explorers! So i presume it is a case of turning around and making your way back now? I'm at 'work' (in PZ) counting down the minutes to 5pm ready to jump in the car and dash home (within the speed limit) and catch the start of England's first Euro match at 5.01pm! Have you asked the fuel barge if they take tesco vouchers?.....
Ian Left minded Welshman back in Poole for day off with Sue before going to work tomorrow. Bon voyage for the return me 'earties
