From Nelson we headed to a small mining town called Westport. On the way we stopped at lake Rotoiti for lunch. Another stunning lake, every view is like a postcard picture. From lake Rotoiti we headed south down the Buller gorge. In some places the rock had to be carved out to allow the single track road to squeeze through. We stopped at the Buller Adventure Centre for a spot of jet-boating on the buller river.
We were provided with yet another stunning outfit. Im sure they're not necessary, just so they can laugh at the tourists. This one consisted of an oversized waterproof mac - ok maybe that was necessary, but then bright yellow shades?? obviously. We boarded the boat, the power of it was phenominal, and it could turn on a fifty pence. It was so loud and it churned up a huge wave behind it and is designed to be able to speed across the shallowest of water. We sped down the river, narrowly avoiding rock faces, doing doughnuts and generally anything to get us soaked - well getting Tom soaked, i think he chose a bad spot!
In the evening, as it was another gorgeous day, the whole group headed down to the beach at westport to watch the sunset, have a bonfire and cook some marshmallows. I think I got a bit close to the fire as the next day I had loads of burnt holes in my jumper!
