Today we travelled to our final stop in the North island and the capital city of New Zealand- Wellington. Wellington is located directly on a major fault line. This whole country is living on the edge. It is inevitable that one day the will expierience a massive earthquake or a volcanic eruption. We had real trouble finding accommodation in Wellington, turned out it was due to the rugby 7's being held here. (quite a major event apparently??!) The boys had tried to get tickets but had been told it was sold out. Then our driver let slip that he knew where we could get some. That was it, as soon as Tom heard that..we were going.

The next day we had to meet a guy called Ralf at a bar downtown at 1.00pm! The day of the finals. I was sceptical to say the least, but sure enough he was there and he had tickets. We also got a free rugby shirt which I was greatful for as on the way down to the stadium, everyone was in fancy dress, some of the themes were hillarious. We had great seats, right in the thick of the action. There was drumming, dancing, singing, mexican waves, competitions etc. A really good atmosphere

We watched England play a couple. They won the plate finals, or something. I managed to work my way to the front for their lap of honour and shook a few of their hands wey hey!! Samoa won in the end. Even for someone like me who's not particularly into rugby it was just a great day out. It was really just a big party. There were fireworks at the end and a great closing ceremony with maori dancing etc.

Also wellington we changed a few flights. We were originally only going to be here for a month but we've decide as we've got no particular deadline we'd extend our visit to 6 weeks so's not to rush and we have loads more to see. On our last night we stayed in a hostel that was painted with zebra print on the outside, just though i'd mention that as it was quite bizare. We took a walk around the city in the evening. It's much nicer that Auckland here. The waterfront is lit really beautifully at night and the city generally feels less more interactive and welcoming. We head to the south island tomorrow.
