Inca Trail complete! What an amazing and possibly the most enduring and exhausting 4 days of my life! Day 1 - the easy day, yeah right! Climbing mountains like you would not believe, and would definately not do if in another situation! But there is no way back, so onwards and upwards! There were 28 of us trekking in total with 45 porters to carry all our bags, tents, kichen equipment (including ovens!), gas and food for the whole trek, really amazing what they carry, 20-25kgs per porter. The food was unbelievable, 3 courses for brekkie, lunch and dinner. Day 2, renouned for being the hardest, and god it lived up to it! climbing up about 700ft worth of inca stepsup to Dead Womens Pass (called that for a reason!), then the deat defying descent down through waterfalls, stunning views, unforgetable. The highest point we climbed to was about 4,400 ft, and you felt it! Day 3, renouned for being the longest, about 12 miles up and down mountains, walking through rainforst 1000´s of ft high, and so high you were trekking throught clouds. With the height you were able to get frst climpse of Machu Picchu, at long last! Day 4, the arrival at 5am to The Sun Gate for views of the Lost City, but a fog prevented any clear views till later, worth the wait after all this time. Such an awesome place, and the sense of achievement of how you did it as well. Another thing done and dusted! x
