Gemma goes global!
Arequipa is such a lovely colonial town, full of churches, cathedrals and beautiful colourful buildings. One of my main attractions was its convent, which used to have hundreds of devoted nuns, but no there is just less than a 100, with ages ranging from 18 to 90 years old. Absolutely stunning building, with most of the outside walls painted terracota and electric blue, like modern mud huts made from volcanis rock. Its a whole town in itself, with all its little streets and homes for the nuns, really fascinating. To see how they lived for all those years and the photos in the bedrooms showing which nuns room its was, with seperate rooms for bathing, cooking and the sick. Now i head to Puerto Inca x
