A chance stop at Batemans Bay Visitor Centre ended up leading us to Broulee Lookout at sunset. We have been coming to the south coast for over 25 years and didn't even know this lookout existed. We've even walked around the rock platform at the base of the lookout, just never looked up.
The view at sunset really is superb, the last rays of the sun on the waves as they break on the beach as well as when the sun hits the mountains to the west.
We enjoyed cheese and biscuits with a beer while soaking up the view. Others came with camp chairs and glasses of wine. Just make sure you bring some warmer clothing in winter. It gets cold quickly when the sun goes down.
Parking at the lookout is limited (2 car spaces), however, there is ample parking at the Broulee Surf Club at the bottom of Heath Street. A well maintained wooden walkway leads out to a small viewing platform on the side of the headland.
