Length: 2km loop
Time: 50 minutes
Grade: Easy
Access: Cullendulla Creek Nature Reserve, Myamba Parade, Surfside
Another of the short walks featured in the Eurobodalla South Coast New South Wales Walks brochure.
Cullendulla Creek Nature Reserve covers some 126 hectares including one of the largest stands of river mangroves south of Sydney, 'chenier' dune complex and Aboriginal middens and burial sites. While the mangroves were easy to spot, the rest was less obvious.
From the public car park follow the signage and boardwalk down to Cullendulla Beach. Walking along the beach at low tide reveals lots of different shells and driftwood. You can also see the impact of erosion by the number of uprooted trees along the beach.
Part way along the beach there is a track to the left that takes you through coastal woodland before eventually joining up with the raised boardwalk through the mangroves. At low tide it is very easy to spot crabs in the mud flats, juvenile fish in the shallows, and if you're lucky birds such as egrets and cormorants.
