Coffs Harbour to Tamworth (300 km)
Back on the road again today, destination Tamworth via Bellingen and Dorrigo, travelling along the Waterfall Way. Almost got wiped out by a truck and trailer on a narrow section of the road partway up to Dorrigo Plateau. We came around a corner and didn't see the give way sign or vehicle stopped in front of us until too late. Drove around the car so we didn't end up smashed into his boot but it didn't give the truck driver much room to navigate around us. If travelling this road, beware the section of road nearly half way up the mountainside. Heading from Coffs Harbour you come around a blind corner straight into the give way sign. There is no warning further down the hill that you are approaching this section.
Stopped at Dorrigo Rainforest Centre and took some time out to admire the views from the Skywalk as well as walk the Lyrebird Link track. The Skywalk gives an excellent view out over the rainforest and valleys all the way across to the coast line. It is not very long, however, in wind and with a lot of people traffic it does move a bit underfoot.
The Lyrebird Link Track is about 800 metres and takes about 20 minutes to complete. You start at the Skywalk and wander down into the rainforest. It is very pretty and the sounds of the bird life make you forget how close to civilisation you are.
Continued into Dorrigo and went to Dangar Falls. Reasonable drop from the falls into the pool below. Obviously been some people that jumped from the falls as there is now a sign in place warning people that jumping from the falls is dangerous.
Further along Waterfall Way we stopped to admire Ebor Falls. These falls contain two parts - upper and lower Ebor Falls and you can access both from the rest area.
Dinner at The Lobby restaurant which is part of Best Western Sanctuary Inn. For the young dining with you, the tables are set with large sheets of paper over a proper linen tablecloth and crayons are supplied. Allows kids of any age to be entertained, anything from playing naughts and crosses to writing shared stories upside down so that those seated opposite you can read what you have written. Food and service from this restaurant were both excellent and we enjoyed complimentary pre-dinner drinks in the lounge in front of an open fire.
Accommodation: Best Western Sanctuary Inn, 293 Marius Street, Tamworth. Booked through Entertainment Card
