14/10/2009 - We had breakfast on the river in Tha Ton then got in a longtail boat which took us to Chiang Rai. We made a few stops along the way at a couple of local villages and a national park with some natural springs in which absolutely stunk! At the last village we stopped at they had elephants there for you to feed and a couple of people in our group opted to hold a massive snake, it was so huge it took four thais to get it out of the cage and lift it!
When we arrived in Chiang Rai we then had to take an hours drive to the Golden Triangle. I was expacting some sort of triangle which would be golden but its just a view point from which you can see (from) Thaliand, Burma and Loas. And its were opium was traded alot in the olden days but they have stopped that now. You could have gone on a boat over to Loas but we wasnt sure how that would affect our vias and we didnt want to get stuck over there so just took a wander round instead. Then we went back to check into our hotel in the centre of Chiang Rai. We were starving hunry by this point so grab soem food and it was the best dinner we have had in tahiland so far! Tom had sauages and jacket potato and the sausages were huge they took up the whole plate. I had soem sort of battered fish n chips it was delicious. After dinner we headed to the night market which was much better than the ones in bangkok and chiang mai because the poeple didnt harrass you and they had a lot more choice. We bought a little purse for tom to use because we have just been using the plastic money bags but they keep breaking. Then we treated ourselves to an ice cream in an american dinner, they were soo good and so filling we felt a bit sick after!

Day 2 - We had a three hour bus journey back form Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai in the morning, but it was nice air conditioned bus so it wasnt too bad. When we got back to Chiang Mai we went back to the prince hotel and picked up our big backpacks. We didnt have a room to stay as in the eve we were getting on the sleeper train back to bangkok. So we went on the internet and updated some stuff then went to burger king and it was delicious lol i like rice but after two weeks of rice for lunch and dinner you get a little bored!
