Firstly apologies it has been so long since we have updated this, we got a bit too chilled out and havent bothered for like a month so we are going to try and get you all up to date now...
31/10/2009 - we had to leave the hostel at 7 oclock in the morning and just our luck there was a massive thunderstorm when we left so we had to put on our raincoats and our waterproof covers for our backpacks and hunt down a taxi in the rain. Luckily it didnt take us too long and we were at the train station before we knew it. We found the terminal at the train station and grab some pringles and some oreos as supplies for the train. They called us to board the train and we found our seats, lucky we picked first class as the other carrages were pretty dodgey. The decor of the train was like something out of the seventies. We had single seats one behind the other as that was all that was left when we booked it. So we settled in ready for the 8 hour journey. Its fair to say that i made a large chunk in my book and tom managed to play a hell of a lot on his psp!! They gave us a roll to eat but it looked like it had been waiting to be eaten for a good few days so we lef that. We munched our way through the pringles and oreo's within the first few hours so by the time we finally made it to Singapore we were both starving. We went through immigration at the train station then tried to fing a cash point, but it appeared that the statin was in the middle of nowhere, despite there being shops over the road they were all like little market stalls. So i stood with the bags as it was boiling hot and very humid while tom went looking for a cash point. Some local man starting talking to me, i said i was from england and he thought i said that i dont understand much english!! so you imagine how the conversation went from there! tom luckily found a cash point and we jumped in a cab to the hostel we had booked. Singapore is a very clean place even the motorway had no rubbish, parts of vehicles or road kill on it. We checked into the hostel and this was our first experience at staying in a dorm! we were in a 6 bed dorm but there were only 5 of us in there, two older women from australia and a lad from Chile who seemed pleasant enough but didnt speak much english. It seemed like we brought the rain with us as after we had finished checking in and settling into our room there was a massive thunderstorm, worse than the one in kuala lumpur and this one lasted for ever. We got bored of waiting for it to stop so we put our raincoats back on and went for a walk. We found the main streets with all the shops and managed to find hooters which tom wanted to go to as soon as he saw that there was one. As it was halloween there were loads of people dressed up, and it appears that the singaporeans go all out for halloween, more so than the americans. We went for a few drinks so tom got to watch the football, and i had fun laughing at all the costumes people were wearing!
Day 2 - 01/11/2009 We woke up early in the morning to go down and make the most of the free breakfast, but because it was a sunday no one was working so you could onyl have toast!! that was a bit of a let down. We went for another walk but this time we headed to the marina, it was much further away than we thought and it was very very humid so we were both knackered when we got there. We found the grand prix track that they use and the pit stops which was cool. As hooters was packed out the night before we went there for lunch and we bought ourselves a hooters tshirt. In the evening we went to the night zoo as we had heard that it was meant to be good. When we got there we watched a show which had hyena's and wolves in but because they are nocturnal we couldnt use the flash on the camera so we didnt get any good photos. After the show we got on the train that takes you on a loop around the zoo to show you all the animals. It was good but a shame that we couldnt take any photos.
