17/10/2009 - The flight from bangkok to ko Samui was so short by the time we got up it was time to coem back down again!! The airport was so small and cute, it was literally just little huts with a conveyor belt in each then that was it. We got a cab which took us to our hostel which me and tom had already booked online on hostel world. But when we got there the front doors were locked and there was no one at the reception. The cab driver left us there and we didnt know what to do, so tom and jerri had a look in the place next door and an american guy came running out apologising and opened the doors for us. He said he wasnt expecting us yet and penzy - his wife, would be back shortly and he said this she walked through the door, this tiny little thai woman. They showed us to our rooms which were really nice and spacious, we had air con, a tv, and a massage bed if you wanted a massage. Penzy was really nice and tolsd us if we wanted to do anything on the island to as her as she could get a discount.
We chucked our bags down and headed to the beach which was just over the road. It was a lovely beach, the sand was really soft and the water was very clear. Me and tom had a little dip before the sun started to set.
For dinner we decided to walk down the main street and see what tickled our fancy, half way down a european guy persuaded us to go to his restuarant by letting us try some of his australian steak, which was yummy. Jen went for the steak which was like half a cow and tom and jerri had kebabs and i had some grilled chicken which was soo good. It was expensive for our travellers budget but we decided to splash out n it was definately worth it. After dinner we continued up the main road to see what was about, there were plenty of massage places and bars. Then we retired to bed.
Day 2 - We decided to start making some progress with our tans so headed to the beach early. It was so nice to just chill out after all the hussle and bussle of the last few weeks travelling around the north of thailand. We ewnt for some lunch then found anothe rspot to sunbath in further down the beach. We were all relaxing enjoying the sun when one of the ice cream sellers started singing to us to buy his ice cream he was soo funny that when he finished we felt we had to. As we were munching away on our ice creams josh appeared further down the beach with his backpack, we couldnt believe that he had managed to find us considering the size of the island. He went to find himself a room then came back to join us on the beach, but as he did it started to rain so we went to a bar for a drink. After the shower we went back on the beach and i let jenni and jerri bury me in the sand, twas fun! As i went in the sea to get all the sand off tom ran up to me and rugby tackled me in the sea and we went flying!!
For dinner we decided to all go to a place on the beach which we had seen earlier advertising free food. We wasnt too sure what it would be like but it was actually quite nice and it filled us up. Jen bought a huge lantern and we set it off on the beach which was nice, then tom and josh bought two fireworks from the same guy and set them off on the beach.
After dinner went to the duke pub which was like an english pub and played some card games. We had to stop after while as we played snap which started to get a bit violent - Jerri and tom!! We had heard about a club called green mango that was meant to be good so went in search for it but when we found it there was no one in there and not much of an atmosphere so left and found a pool place and had a few games before saying farewell to josh and going to bed.
Day 3 - We said goodbye to our newly adopted thai parents who said to us when we left ' you have our card if you need any help at all even if its not about this island give us a call' bless them. We then jumped in a van to the part to get our boat across to ko phangnan. The boat was nice, we were expecting a wooden one for the price that we paid!!
