We are Sailing
Well it is 12.30 at night, and I am sitting on the deck of the boat writing this blogg. There is a beautiful cool southerly breeze blowing, music from the town across the bay keeping me entertained. It has been a really good day.
I was first out of bed this morning (which makes a change) so I decided to walk down the beach to an old building that looked interesting. I could identify that it was very old, but I needed to know more. There was and fisherman fishing off the beach so I struck up a conversation with him. He was an engineer from the Hydro electric station at Ionina about 108 kms down the track. The poor guy was telling me about the issues Greece had, and that he had his pay cut in half from E2000 to E1000 per month, again because of the Austerity measures. Anyway we finally got around to this old building, and it was from Venetian times. There is a similar structure on the other side of the bay. He then went onto say how Cleopatra Marina got its name, and it is because of the battle by Cleopatra and Mark Antony against the Romans took place here. Fascinating!
By the time I got back, everybody else was up. It was Cheryl and my 30Th wedding wedding anniversary today, and this is a good place to spend it. We all got cleaned up and had breakfast. I even managed to get the showers to work properly. Talk about dodgy Greek plumbing.
Stuart and Brian sent me into town with the girls, so I could buy a keyboard to play on the boat, and keep Stuart company on his guitar.
We caught the boat from the Marina at 10, and we were in Preveza by 10.01. Even the boat driver drove like a taxi driver, flat out. We then had a quick breakfast, which was very nice, and we were ready to shop. After many attempts at getting the directions right (that's up to the next set of lights and turn left, or was that right?) we eventually found a music shop. So I got a cheap keyboard, and Heather bought Stuart a bazooka. (bazooki?) Then the girls decided it was time for some more shoe shopping. Consequently I looked very suspicoius standing outside all these shops with a piano keyboard. I was there that long, that if I was busking I could have paid for the trip. Finally, they ran out of shops so we had a quick lunch, then it was back to the marina by taxi, as Diane had to be back by 3 to tidy some things up at the office. It was very hot when we got back, so we went to the bar to ensure our liquid intake was sufficiently good, so we wouldn't dehydrate.
