We are Sailing
Finally, Stuart, Heather and Cheryl, got out, and moved into the seats in front of us, that fitted 3, leaving Brian, Di and I in the compartment. But, our Greek train driver wanted his train full. So eventually 2 more people hopped in, and I nearly threw up, their BO was so bad. We waited for the train to leave, it seemed to be taking so long. Then there was a bit of a comotion, car pulls up and a flat tyre was being replaced. You normally wouldn't mind so much, but it was about- 45c in the shade, and this woman's BO was bloody shocking! Finally, we were underway for the ride of a lifetime (ho hum) , there was a pre recorded message that was supposed to run in sync with all the places of interest, but it didn't. I think by the time they tell you in Greek, then English, the stop had been passed. (it takes twice as much to say anything in Greek, no matter whether you write it or say it). Just the same we saw enough to get a picture of the town, what there was to see. However, the quote of the day belongs to Stuart. (and don't forget he is a town planner). "the trouble is with Greece, is that you do not know if these are really ancient ruins, or simply work in progress"
After we hopped of the Green train,'which took all of 20 mins, we decided to make our way to the Blue Rain stop, and find somewhere around there to have lunch, before catching the Blue train. The girls were going to do a spot of shopping. (no surprises there). We found a great little restaurant opposite the stop, and we had a light lunch. It was getting close to 2 pm, when the train was due to leave.'Heather said to us, people are starting to line up, so you had better get moving. So we made our way to the stop. We waited, and waited, and waited no train. The people in the line also disappeared onto the buses behind us. Stuart decided to get some tourist info from the booth behind us, and then on his way back, forgot to duck low enough under a sign (he had his reading glasses on) and nearly knocked himself out. Brian and I were tossing a coin to see who was going to have to give him CPR. As it turned out we were safe, and Stuart recovered. But wheres this bloody train. Probably doesn't run Mondays Brian quipped. As we were talking and English lady with two young kids rocked up looking for the Green Train. She was reading the timetable on the notice board. Given I knew all about the green train, I helped her. In doing so I pointed out that this was the blue train stop, and the blue train ran on the hour pointing to the timetable, it also said it ran from "Tuesday to Sunday". Girls! Now that our plans were thrown into disarray, I decided to go and visit the 13 ruins in the town area. Stuart and Brian were going back to the Marina to check out to see if Brian could put his boat on the hardstand for the next 12 months. On the way however, they found this very secluded bar of the beaten track, to have a quite drink.
