Started the day by driving over the Clyde Bridge and up to Loch Lomond for a cruise where we checked out Rob Roy's cave (his hideout when he was on the run). We then drove up into the Highlands and saw some fantastic scenery, stopping at a lovely viewpoint called Glencoe (the sight of the Glencoe Massacre where the Campbells killed all the McDonalds in the clan wars; the saying now goes never trust a Campbell!). All the lochs are connected with man-made canals to form a continuous passage from north to south known as the Caledonian Canal. Had lunch at Fort William which is at the base of Ben Nevis (the tallest mountain in the British Isles). Unfortunately our view of the mountain was obscured by heavy rain! We continued north crossing the Bridge of Skye to Kyleakin. It was still raining on our drive around Isle of Skye but still had lovely views of the mountains, bays and surrounding islands. Our hotel was very old and the stubbies were just kept on the shelf. I tried a Boddington's which was on tap then had a couple of Drambuies!
