we arrived early morning in Sukhothai (I'm not going to say it too much its difficult to spell!) well anyway Sukhothai was once the capital of Thailand in the 12th century and is full of buddas and statues.
after arriving at our guest house with our other travelers we got assorted into our rooms, we ended up across from Jen, who Sid had an intimate relationship with! (those who don't know Sid is a monkey teddy that travels with me and josh!) any way after Jens meeting with Sid (who happened to fly through her door (literally)) we didn't see him until the next day where he was strapped to her bag! and he had a rather large smirk on his face!
anyway back to the trip! after we settled into our rooms we headed to the guesthouse's bar to meet up with the rest of the group. we ended up playing a very very vicious game of spoons where most of us came out with injuries! we went to bed after the guest house staff politly told us to go to bed at around 2am.
the second day we went to a couple of temples that are surrounded with budda images and statues. we learnt abit about the area while we raced round on bikes that we hired earlier. obviously Mick had to ride old school like he was on a chopper! we then had a home cooked picnic which was absolutly delicious we had countless curries and local dish's. i felt abit greedy because i went up 3 times to fill my plate! but oh well!
we headed back to the hostel. and as it was bloody roasting we ended up in the hostels pool where we met our first Thai bride. it isn't confirmed but it was obvious. she was about 20 odd and this Dutch guy must have been rich because he was renting an expensive apartment. anyway they were in the pool and he said he couldn't swim, so what does she do?..... swim to the deep end and stay there! it was brilliant to watch over the top of my Dan Brown book! eventually she felt sorry for him and slowly moved back to him.
that night we discovered the world of seven eleven! this is a magical place where they sell magic nectar (beer) for a fraction of the price of bars! its amazing and no doubt you will hear alot about seven eleven when we get back! anyway we ended up sat outside 7-11 with a couple of beers and me, Josh, Mick and Jen and basically watched our first accident. where 2 mopeds collided. it was obviously one kids fault as he didn't look while making a U - turn in the middle of the road! anyway they both managed to ride off and suvived the whole incident!
later that night fueled by dutch courage me and josh went in search for food. we had multiple local delights and eventually found ourselves peering over some roasted insects! this was when we felt intrigued! after standing and watching countless people buy bugs from this vendor we eventually made a decision. we opted for Silk Worms. basically they were just orange looking nuts but covered in Soy Sauce and salt. we both took a poking stick and found our bug of choice. and on three we tucked in! they wern't bad but they just tasted like pork scratchings but the texture wasn't too pleasing! other than that it was fine.
we headed back to the hostel (J&J's) where we had some more beers with Mick and Jen while we played a few card games including "arse hole" and "s*** head". then we were again forced to bed by the freindly staff! but it didn't matter becasue in the morning we're heading out to Lampang!
