we woke up early to head out to a mushroom farm. this was going to be good *Yawn*. we allgot on our bikes and made our way around a couple of temples where we got to one where it had a pond full of giant catfish. and i mean giant! there were about 30 of them just fighting for bread that we'd taken with us.
we had a look around the temple and after about 30 mins we were off again this time towards a mushroom farm. they took us round and showed us how they grew them and cultivated them. after this breif talk in the roasting weather we went to the growing shed where they had countless numbers of plastic bottles filled with the mushroom spors. after you pick the mushroom it grows back about 30-40 times before the spor has to be replaced.
we all had chance to pick some which felt abit wasteful but we were going to eat them nontheless. we filled about 2 big bags full of these flat shrooms and then went shopping *woopie* this was very very boring for me, josh and mick who just sat on some plastic chairs and generally annoyed the south africans! we were there for about another half hour and then we made our way back.
my bike was s**t so the chain kept falling off so all the group cycled off without me and i was covered on grease and oil. so i fixed my bike and set off at full pace, which was pretty slow becasue it had no gears. i was flying down this long straight road in between two feilds when it suddenly split in two! i didn't know which road to take so i took a hunch and went right... mainly becasue i didn't have to brake.
anyway on the corner of the road were some builders who shouted at me in Thai, understanding fully, i turned round to see they were all pointing to the left! S**t what a fool! so i turned the bike round and powered it as fast as i could to catch them up. eventually i saw them all moving pretty slowly so i decided to do a Mr Bean! straighten my back and make it look like it was easy while cycling past at double thier speed. pretty stupid i know but it got some laughs so im happy!
we got back to the homestead in one piece, chain and all! and we were just about to have dinner when the women woh owned the homestay dragged us off to a local school.
this was quite amusing as we had to teach these kids english, so they must have had pretty bad education after a scottish and two northerners taught them! Jen was slightly scared of kids so she stayed back even though she had impecible english. poor kids!
anyway we had to go through the alphabet with them and teach them how to pronounce the letters. mick went first then josh then me. jen should have done the last part but she went bright red and became really shy, so like true adults we bullied her infront of the poor children!
mick insisted on teaching them R which he rolled and tey all obviously followed so we had a room full of kids going "ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" very funny. after the lesson had finnished the kids all ran up to us to take us outside to play! this horrified jen as she got mobbed by all the girls and she got dragged off screaming! me mick and josh got pulled outside to play football on solid grass pitch. so we played barefoot becasue flipflops wont do! so we got seperated into teams and as one of us hit the ball all the kids ran to it, it was quite funny. there was no one to pass to because no one was in space! after about half an hour of boiling hot footy we retired and went back to the homestead which wasa conviniently across the road!
we settled down to wat the mushroom we picked earlier which to my suprise were incredibly nice, to say i hate mushrooms!
now where off to chang mai in the morning! very busy trip!
