Sunday 26th - We headed up the Stuart Highway again after a pretty quiet stop at the rest area. Not many road trains going past last night. The Stuart Highway is pretty straight and not much changes. Just out of (NSW) we came upon our first straight road and they are getting longer.
Arrived at Coober Pedy and set up at the Stuart Range Caravan Park. This park has no grass - just all gravel and dirt, but has a great playground. We are directly opposite this so Gracie has been playing with all the other kids in the area.
Due to limited water, the showers are coin operated but last a long time. It only took 80 cents to wash me and gracie AND our hair!! There is no water to each sites so we are using the tank water but there is a hose to fill up with at the entrance to the caravan park that costs 20 cents per 30L of drinking water which we will do when we leave. There is another one of these in the town.
Monday 27th - This morning we looked around the town and bought Gracie a small opal necklace that she chose. She is such a charmer that the man in the shop also gave her a 'G' for her name.
In the afternoon we went on a tour of Coober Pedy. We went out to the Breakaways, the Dog Fence, to see where they mine and noodle, and to see some sights in the town itself such as a house underground and the Serbian Church.
Noodling is fossicking through the already dug up dirt that has gone through the blowers first. Not much chance of finding anything of value but some times people can get lucky. Steve and Gracie think it's funny that it's called noodling as this is one of Steve's nicknames for me!
Finished the evening off with a pizza from the caravan park - great!
