Well we're back to internet coverage after two weeks in the bush and what an experience it was. We lived with three other Brits, two researchers, one other volunteer. And two azafady guides, Malagasy men, and two Malagasy cooks. They were all so knowledgeable and helpful. Spent our time doing research in the small remaining parts of the forest in the area. The aim is to show the worth of the forest and save it from agriculture, mining or firewood! Researched the various species of frog, snake (not Vanda's favourite bit especially the boa in the toilet), tree and lemur (Vanda's favourite bit). Sleeping in tent, eating rice and beans and lots of walking. The very best part was the work with the local village Conservation Club and English lessons. They were such fun, the students were sooo keen to learn. It was a hard two weeks but really rewarding. We're both tired but happy and glad to have a flushing toilet (after a Long drop hole in the ground), hot shower (after a bucket of brown water from the well) and a bed. Oh what luxury... The villagers we left behind will not experience these things. Love C and V.

Jane Sounds like an amazing start to your adventures, have been thinking of you and wondering how you were getting on, now I know. Looking forward to next installment. How big was the boa, Vanda and was he/she a permanent resident! How exciting and somewhat humbling. Stay safe, have fun and enjoy.J&R xx
Vanda Niemiec Hiya. Lovely to hear from you. I didn't actually see the boa as I chose to use another toilet for the duration of our stay-1 that just had a resident rat! But Craig took a photo of it and it was about 3.5feet.. We saw lots of smaller snakes too but the giant spiders were the most scary. Luckily they have no deadly creatures here. Love to you bboth. V&C
