Here we are sat outside a restaurant in the warm climate of the Madagascar rainforest. We continue to search for lemurs and enjoy the Madagascar country and people. The people are very friendly saying "salami" (well that's what it sounds like) to greet everyone they meet. They always smile or laugh when we use this greeting too.
So far we have visited two national parks and one community reserve. We have spotted lots of ringtail lemurs, they are really fun to watch as they move around in family groups through the trees and on the ground, real entertainment. We have also seen the very rare greater bamboo lemur and several golden bamboo lemurs as well as chameleons, snakes, iguanids, many birds and Vanda had a very close encounter with a gecko when it climbed up her leg (when she was wearing shorts!!) She didn't shriek too loud!
The weather has been good, except a heavy rain storm but we were driving then. The roads are really awful, even worse in the rain. We are mainly on the national road RN7, one of the best in Madagascar but there are areas where the road has completely collapsed and so the locals put rocks and stones around the holes to warn drivers of the danger. Wouldn't want a fly-drive here.
Today we spent the morning kayaking 9km down the river at the ranomafana national park, great fun. This afternoon we move on to a private eco reserve where we hope to see more lemurs and perhaps safikas and nocturnal lemurs. There are very few tourists and even fewer Brits - the majority of tourists are French.
