Today we went on our 4WD desert safari which they call "dune bashing". We were supposed to be picked up from the hotel at 9.30am this morning but got a phone call from the tour desk downstairs at the hotel at 9.05am asking if we could come down in 5 minutes! We told them we would be down in 10 minutes. When we got downstairs we met our driver and got into the 4WD. we drove for about 20 minutes out of Dubai and stopped at a small group of shops where the driver let some air out of the tyres so we could drive out onto the sand. We were driving down a narrow road towards the desert when a large group of camels came toward us. We stopped and took some photos, we'd never seen a black camel before but now we have! Out in the desert the driver floored it up and down the dunes and sideways down the front of the dunes for about half an hour before stopping for photos in the middle of the desert. He then took us to the desert camp where they have overnight stays and night safaris with dinner and shows. We then set off through the desert and back to civilisation. We stopped at the same place to pump the tyres back up then were driven back to the hotel.
This afternoon has been the only time we have had free so have spent it relaxing in the lounge at the hotel drinking coffee and eating snacks. Tonight we'll pack and go to bed early as we have to get up at 2am to go to the airport for our 5.15am flight to Brunei.
